Blame America (and the UK) First [Update]

Sadly No! stomped this with snarkier boots already, but I can't resist.

Short version of today's Washington Post Op-Ed section:

The terrorists are right and we deserve their wrath.

If you think I'm exaggerating, read it. We deserve it, Kathleen Parker says, because we allow women to serve in the military. Here's a piece:

On any given day, one isn't likely to find common cause with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He's a dangerous, lying, Holocaust-denying, Jew-hating cutthroat thug -- not to put too fine a point on it.

But he was dead-on when he wondered why a once-great power such as Britain sends mothers of toddlers to fight its battles.

She would deny it, of course, but she is making the argument that 1) Women's rights in the West was a bad thing; and 2) it makes us worthy of attack by the more morally-pure extremists in the world. Again, that is not an exaggeration:

In the eyes of Iran and other Muslim nations, we're wimps. While the West puts mothers in boats with rough men, Muslim men "rescue" women and drape them in floral hijabs.

It's "rescue" when a women is taken and put in a hijab. "Rescue." [That deserves a finer point: Parker is speaking broadly about women in the military but also specifically about Seaman Faye Turney, the one woman in the group of captured sailors. And specifically she is saying about her that she was rescued by the Iranians. I don't even know what to say to that.]

It gets worse, and loonier:

Rape, though not a likely risk in this case, is a consistent argument against putting women in or near combat. While advocates for women in combat argue that men are also raped, there is an important difference. Women are raped by men, which, given the inherent power differential between the sexes, raises women's rape to another level of terror.

The absolute lunacy of that is something to behold. Acknowledging that men also are raped, Parker says the difference is that "women are raped by men." I know any reader sees it immediately, but, uh, the men are raped by men too. And that, let me assure Ms. Parker, deserves to be called "another level of terror" too. What would be next in Parker's quest to get the pretty young things with boobs off the battlefield? Getting the more attractive and more feminine-looking men out too? If she acknowledges that men get raped too, then wouldn't they be more susceptible to it? What about shorter men? Or men with unnaturally-long eyelashes and blue eyes? That's gotta be hot to some man-rapers.

The next bit, unbelievably, gets even lower:

What kind of man, one shudders to wonder, is willing to allow his country's women to be raped and tortured by men of enemy nations?

Oh come on, just come out with it already: What kind of man let's his women drive the goddamned truck? What kind of nation allows it's women out of house - period? In short: We deserve to be attacked by fundamentalist terrorists. They at least know how to treat their bitches.

This toe-chewing backwards insanity brought to you courtesy of the Washington Post. Don't worry, America! The Glorious Knights of the Morally Pure Legions of Manly-Man Terrorists are coming to rescue you from your immoral ways! (With hijabs!)

UPDATE: Letting something like this make it to print is one thing. Committing journalistic mortal sin is a whole 'nuther ball of wax.
